The Afghan Cultural Association in Austria, in collaboration with VIDC, the Vienna Chamber of Labour, and the Municipality of Vienna, is honored to host a two-day conference on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the magazine Banu under the themes:
Combating Gender Apartheid and “Empowering Women through Education” on May 23 and 24, 2025.
This conference will feature the participation of distinguished personalities, including the Mayor of Vienna, politicians, and civil society activists from around the world. The first day of the conference will take place at Vienna City Hall, and the second day will be held at one of the city’s prestigious venues.
Purpose of the Event
The primary goal of this event is to focus on empowering women, addressing their challenges, and raising awareness about gender apartheid in Afghanistan.
3rd Rabia Balkhi Award Ceremony
As part of the conference, the third Rabia Balkhi Award will be presented to outstanding and accomplished Afghan women in the following fields. Winners will be selected through public voting:
• Literature (Poetry and Writing)
• Journalism and Media
• Cinema and Theater
• Social Activism
• Long-standing Collaboration with Banu Magazine
Eligibility Criteria for Nomination:
1. Any Afghan woman who has achieved significant accomplishments in one of the above-mentioned fields may nominate herself.
2. A brief biography and an overview of activities and achievements must be submitted.
3. All supporting documents, evidence, and proofs of activities must be electronically attached to the registration form.
4. Each individual may cast a vote using only one computer.
5. Physical presence or a designated representative of the winners is mandatory at the award ceremony; otherwise, the award will be granted to the runner-up (except in exceptional circumstances).
Timeline:
• Nomination Period: January 10 to April 1, 2025
• Voting Period: April 2 to May 10, 2025
